Evangelicals hate Jesus?

Evangelicals hate Jesus?

A very popular blog post entitled Why Evangelicals hate Jesus has been floating around twitter and blog space for quite some time and has stirred  quite an uproar. In a nutshell, the article claims that the average evangelical does not actually  follow the teaching of Jesus Christ!

The typical Evangelical (Baptist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, etc.) is usually White, Republican, anti-immigrant, anti-union, anti-universal medical care, and a couple of other antis I can’t remember right now   (it’s easy to lose track of the antis). But these Evangelicals who go to church every Sunday, and thank Jesus every day for his sacrifice, do not even realize that their beliefs are the polar opposite of what Jesus actually taught!! Any hint of socialism is fought tooth and nail (talk to our Anabaptist brethren for a dose of REAL socialism as taught by Christ), and they are pro-war,  ”support corporate greed and capitalistic excess, and they are the most opposed to institutional help for the nation’s poor — especially poor children.

They hate anything that smacks of “socialism,” even though that is essentially what their Savior preached. They despise food stamp programs, subsidies for schools, hospitals, job training — anything that might dare to help out those in need. Even though helping out those in need was exactly what Jesus urged humans to do.  Evangelicals are that segment of America which is the most pro-militaristic, pro-gun, and pro-corporate, while simultaneously claiming to be most ardent lovers of the Prince of Peace.”

This is hypocritical! I’d even say, evangelicals are modern day Pharisees!

Yes, I said it! He tore down the Pharisees who acted EXACTLY like Evangelicals do today!

Remember, the ones who had ALL the knowledge with their seminary degrees, the “priests” over the people, were the ones who crucified our Lord! If Jesus Christ were to come back as a man right now, would we even recognize him?

Some Christians who dislike Socialism says it’s because Christians won’t depend on God, they’ll depend on the government. What if socialism was the way God wanted to provide? Remember, no government is in authority unless it has passed Jesus first. So, he has allowed it.

And we don’t know who God’s anointed is.  King Cyrus of Persia was anointed by God! And no one knew! When the Lord fed the people of Israel with manna from heaven while they were wandering through the desert, I bet there were many people who said “We’re not going to depend on each other now, we’ll become spoiled”

While the idea of Socialism and communism truly began with Jesus Christ himself, Karl Marx had to remove any semblance of God from it. He wanted the same thing that Jesus Christ offered without Jesus Christ! If you don’t believe that the first Christians lived in community, read Acts chapters 2-3.

It must be tough at times to share a bed (metaphorically, since politics and religion make strange bedfellows) with such as Boehner, Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Cantor, Pawlenty, O’Reilly, Hannity, and all the other white, Protestant country-clubbers who weepingly demand to get their country given back to them on a silver
platter. Yeshua haMashiach would’ve: timatov – Think I’m About to Openly
Vomit. (Thanks to Gary Shteyngart for this.)

Allan, thanks for replying. I agree with you. All those people are nothing but neo-cons, and neo-cons are globalists and corporate apple shiners. I think that liberalism and progressivism is a path paved with good intentions, but it leads far away from this country’s original purpose. I honestly believe our nation was blessed around 200 years ago, and about 100 years ago, we have stepped further and further away from depending on the Lord. Ii happened to ancient Israel too, twice in fact! After King Solomon, Rehoboam was the beginning of their end. I try no t associate myself with any of the Republican pundits. The people that I listen to at times are Michael Savage (Michael Alan Weiner) and Alex Jones although he can be a bit extreme at times. But he is my favorite paranoid! ;) I in general take the Anabaptist stance. I don’t play a role, so I shouldn’t care. I’m against war and violence, but I believe that you can have a weapon to protect yourself since not everyone shares my belief of no violence ;)
Especially violence towards those unable to protect themselves. Such as the mentally ill, children and the unborn. I don’t support the death penalty, but I’m against our prison system. I’m against spitting in God’s face, by allowing gay marriage, but since what I say doesn’t matter, I rarely say anything. I hope I’ve cleared some things up.

Wow! I really don’t know what to say. I care for the homeless. I give more to charity than several “liberal” lawyers I know, yet with one tenth the income. We take up love offerings to help total strangers pay rent. We give away food to anyone in need. We even invite people who are in need to stay with us in our home. Yet, I am a greedy capitalist? I hate Jesus? All because I prefer a political system, a form of self-government, that does not “take from the rich and give to the poor?” I believe, as Scripture taught, “a laborer is worth his hire.”

I think you’ve misunderstood. I was basically commenting on the popular article “Evangelicals hate Jesus”. I would align myself in the evangelical camp, but “evangelicalism” as a platform DOES hold all the points Phil Zuckerman brought up:
      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/phil-zuckerman/why-evangelicals-hate-jes_b_830237.html

Zuckerman didn’t argue about individual pastors or the rare Christian that actually follows the words of Jesus or that government should do anything. He said that what Evangelicals _support_ are contrary to Jesus’ message. Supporting war, torture, capital punishment, and the like are 100% opposite Jesus Christ. Since I now am a home churcher, and have left the clergy, I no longer follow denominational patterns and have become more and more anabaptist. So I am aloof to the decisions of this world.
